How to Get EORI Number in UK — Complete 2026 Guide
An EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number is mandatory for any business importing or exporting goods to and from the United Kingdom. Without it, no customs declaration can be filed in your name. Here’s how to get one — and how UK EORI differs from EU EORI post-Brexit.
UK EORI vs. EU EORI — What’s Different Post-Brexit?
Before Brexit, a single EORI number issued by any EU country was recognised across all EU member states. Since January 2021:
- EORI UK (GB + 12 digits) — valid only in UK customs systems (CDS HMRC)
- EORI PL (PL + 10 digits) — valid only in EU customs systems (PUESC, TARIC)
A Polish company exporting to the UK needs a Polish EORI for the EU export declaration and the UK importer needs a UK EORI for the UK import declaration. They are separate systems and do not recognise each other’s numbers.
How to Register for EORI in UK (GB EORI)
- Go to gov.uk/eori
- Complete the online form — no documents need to be uploaded
- Provide: UTR number, VAT number (if registered), company address, business activity description
- Wait 5–7 business days for HMRC to issue the number by email
The UK EORI registration is free. Non-UK companies (e.g. Polish companies with regular UK imports) can also apply, but may face additional verification.

- Submit an application through the PUESC e-Klient portal
- Provide company registration details (NIP, REGON, address)
- No fee, turnaround 1–3 business days
Does My Polish Company Need a UK EORI?
Usually not — for standard exports from Poland to UK, your Polish EORI covers the Polish export declaration. The UK importer handles UK-side customs. However, if you sell DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), store goods in UK warehouses, or are an Amazon UK FBA seller, you may need a UK EORI or a UK customs representative.
